Current Volunteer Opportunities at KIS for Fall/Winter 2008:


The Community Bridging Program for Adults and Youth
The Community Bridging host volunteers are matched with newcomers to Canada to help them develop a social network, and to share social and recreational activities. Volunteers are identified as Adult host volunteers who are matched with adult newcomers; this includes individuals, couples or families. Youth host volunteers, school-age (Grade 8-12) are matched with youth newcomers’ school-age (Grade 8-12). Volunteers will benefit by meeting people from other cultures and learning more about those cultures.  The coordinator will help match prospective volunteers with newcomers. A time commitment of 1-2 hours a week for 6 months is needed.

 

ESL Tutors

ESL Tutors are needed to provide English language assistance to adult immigrants and newcomers to help them become fully integrated members of Canadian society. ESL Tutors will have the opportunity to be trained and receive a volunteer certification.  A time commitment of 1-2 hours per week for 3 to 6 months is needed.

 

Office and Out-of-Office Assistance

Volunteers are currently needed for office help, which includes answering phones, greeting clients and other clerical work. Also needed are volunteers for out-of-office work which includes fundraising and creating  awareness of Kamloops Immigrant Services at various community locations.
